Today’s Question: Learning curves?

12 December, 2009

Do games match their learning curve with how people actually learn? Its all happened to us at some point, we buy a game and are so excited we don’t read the instructions. “It’s a genre I’ve played before…” Ten minutes into the game you have no idea whats going on, so you are forced to read the instructions (either the little booklet that came with the game, or on a website). This question is about how games teach the players how to play, or how to interact with the game. Do learning curves affect a player’s interest in the game? Are there games that are just too complex, and too much information too soon ruins the fun? What do you think?

Today’s question will be answered by me tonight, to allow for ample thinking time. Also, any comments will be coiled over and braced upon in tonight’s post.
